Recent Graduate Stuart Watkins Appears on “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour
BATON ROUGE – Stuart Watkins, former LSU student body president and a recent graduate of the LSU College of Agriculture, appeared on ABC News’ “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour for a roundtable discussion with other 2011 graduates talking about the job market with top business executives. The show aired on May 29 and is available online at http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/video/roundtable-graduates-ceos-13713737.
“It was a great privilege to take part in ABC’s ‘This Week’ with Christiane Amanpour and represent my alma mater, LSU,” Watkins said. “With the downward atmosphere in the economy and stagnant job creation over the past decade, my generation of college graduates are feeling the impact. The opportunity to take part in the roundtable discussion not only gave me the chance to express my current experience with entering today’s job market, but I was given great insight from business leaders like Mort Zuckerman and Doug Imbruce.”
Watkins, a native of Welsh, La., participated in the discussion along with students from Harvard University; Howard University in Washington, D.C.; and the University of California, Berkley. The business executives included Zuckerman, chairman and founder of Boston Properties Inc., publisher of the New York Daily News and editor and chief of U.S. News & World Report; and Imbruce, founder and CEO of the Internet startup Qwiki Inc.
“I walked away from the ABC discussion with a regained confidence in not only my ability to land a job that is most fit for me but a sense of self pride for attending a great institution like Louisiana State University,” Watkins said. “I’m finding that the experiences I encountered through my undergraduate years both in and out of the classroom are exactly what employers are looking for in this limited and competitive job market. While entering the work force during an unstable economy is unsettling for recent graduates like myself, I feel like it is a small road block and will only make my generation more creative as we work to better the economy and our great nation.”
Watkins will be traveling to Kenya in the coming weeks with Aspen Heights Inc. to volunteer in schools and tour the region. After he returns from the trip, he plans to explore opportunities in both the political and agricultural related sectors. He graduated in May with a degree in human resources and leadership development. In addition to being student body president during his time at LSU, he was homecoming king and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
