LSU Manship School to Host CBS’ Bob Schieffer as Spring Commencement Speaker
BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication will welcome Bob Schieffer, longtime CBS News correspondent and moderator of “Face the Nation,” to campus on Friday, May 20, to speak at the college’s commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place at noon in the University Recreation Center on campus.
Schieffer is a 54-year veteran of the news business, has spent 42 years with CBS and served as the network’s Washington, D.C., correspondent since 1982. In that time he has covered the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill. He has also moderated “Face the Nation,” the network’s Sunday public affairs broadcast, since 1991 and anchored the “CBS Evening News” from March 2005 until August 2006. He is also the namesake of the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University.
“We are so proud to welcome one of the most recognizable names in network news to speak to our newest graduates,” said Manship School Interim Dean Ralph Izard. “Bob has seen it all in this business, and he is well-equipped to lay out what challenges and opportunities future communicators in this country will be facing.”
