04/05/2011 09:22 AM

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Chinese Student and Scholar Association is proud to sponsor the Yang Guang, or Sunshine, Chinese Dance Troupe of Baton Rouge's celebration of the 2011 Chinese Culture Night on Saturday, April 30, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the LSU Student Union Theater.

The audience will be taken to a visual feast of the classical dances of the Han people, and other exotic Chinese dances featuring the ethnicities of Zhuang, Yi, Dai and Miao.

Since 2005, the Yang Guang Chinese Dance Troupe has been an active participant in many important cultural activities in Louisiana, contributing performances of exquisite artistry to a collection of events including the annual International Heritage Celebration and annual International Cooking Competition in Baton Rouge, the Natchitoches Folk Festival and the annual Multicultural Day sponsored by the Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans. The Yang Guang Chinese Dance Troupe also frequents yearly celebrations of traditional holidays in Chinese communities, such as the Chinese New Year Celebration in Houston.

On Nov. 21, 2009, the Yang Guang Chinese Dance Troupe successfully debuted its Chinese Culture Night at the Independence Park Theater, an event to raise cultural awareness and help people understand and appreciate Chinese ethnic cultures. On top of the exhilarating dance performance, the audience was also entertained by live performances of Chinese traditional music, Chinese vocal arts and Chinese Kung Fu.

The Yang Guang Chinese Dance Troupe is dedicated to promoting regional and ethnic diversity, preserving cultural heritage and stimulating cultural conversations among cultural communities.

Tickets are $15 for the general public and free for LSU students with a valid ID card, children 12 and under, and senior citizens 65 and older.
