Gov. Jindal Appoints LSU Professor Laura Choate to State Board
BATON ROUGE – Gov. Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of LSU College of Education Associate Professor Laura Choate to the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.
The Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners serves to examine, recommend and approve all applicants for licensure as marriage and family therapists.
According to statute, the board is composed of 10 gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Members include three licensed professional counselors, three educators who are licensed professional counselors specializing in the training of mental health counselors in accredited programs, three licensed marriage and family therapists, and an at-large member.
Laura Choate, of Baton Rouge, is an associate professor of counselor education at LSU. Choate will serve as a counselor educator who is a licensed professional counselor specializing in the training of mental health counselors in accredited programs, as required by statute.
An extension of her counseling research in the College’s Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice, Choate recently published a book titled Girls’ and Women’s Wellness Issues (2008, American Counseling Association). This resource examines current issues faced by girls and women using a life span approach that emphasizes wellness and resilience.
