LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander presided over the main ceremony. “You are needed to make the world a better place,” Alexander said in his remarks to the graduates.
During the main ceremony, Lt. Col. Dwight Pertuit Jr. recognized the newly commissioned Army, Air Force and Navy ROTC cadets. The 23 cadets were officially commissioned at a separate ceremony on May 14 at the LSU Student Union Theater.
The keynote address was given by LSU alumnus and Whole Foods Market Chairman of the Board John Elstrott, who gave advice to the graduates on ways to have a happy and fulfilling life.

LSU’s 286th commencement exercises wrapped up a record-setting year of graduates for the university. The spring graduating class total of 3,979 students is the largest single graduating class in the university’s history, and also included new highs for African American and Hispanic students receiving degrees.
