Approximately 15 graduating LSU seniors received University Medals for graduating with the highest grade-point averages of the Fall 2014 semester. They were recognized during a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, in the Recital Hall of the LSU School of Music building.
Five LSU ROTC cadets were commissioned at the Fall Commissioning Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Woods Auditorium of the Energy, Coast & Environment Building.
The largest whole genome study to date was recently completed featuring the work of LSU researchers. For this international project, the team sequenced, assembled and compared full genomes of 48 bird species representing all major branches of modern birds. The LSU Museum of Natural Science maintains one of the world’s largest frozen tissue collections of birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.

On Friday, Dec. 12, LSU alumnus Roger Houston Ogden announced his $12 million investment in the LSU Honors College in honor of his father, the late Roger Hadfield Ogden, and son, Dr. Roger Hadfield “Field” Ogden II, an orthopedic surgeon in New Orleans.
