An honorary doctorate was presented to U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Jasper Welch (center), who graduated from LSU in 1952 and went on to a distinguished career in the Air Force, serving as chief of theoretical physics at the Air Force Special Weapons Center.

Eighteen graduates were commissioned during the LSU Spring Commissioning Ceremony on Thursday, May 16, including three from the LSU Army ROTC program, 11 from the LSU Air Force ROTC program and four who participated in Southern University's Navy ROTC program.
