LSU’s Transition Advisory Team held their fifth meeting on Tuesday, April 16, at the LSU AgCenter. During the meeting, the team heard from Walter Isaacson, CEO of the Aspen Institute, and Stephen Moret, secretary of Louisiana Economic Development. On Friday, April 19, Fluor Corporation and the College of Engineering held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the FluorIndustrial Safety Research Laboratory housed in LSU's Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. LSU recently named Carl Freeman (center), James F. Cassidy Professor in the Department of English, and Bradley Schaefer (second from right), a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, as Distinguished Research Masters.
Bruce Perry was the keynote speaker at the LSU School of Social Work's 75th Anniversary Conference and Celebration on April 19 at the Lod Cook Alumni Center. Perry spoke on "The Impact of Trauma and Neglect on the Developing Child." The LSU Police Department, in conjunction with the LSU Athletic Department, recently received the Sport Event Security Aware certification from the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security. LSU is the 10th university in the nation to receive this certification, and the fourth in the Southeastern Conference. On Friday, April 12, the LSU Alumni Association inducted eight new members into its Hall of Distinction, including Larry Jones, the Alumnus of the Year, and Michael Tipton, the Young Alumnus of the Year, along with Keith Comeaux, Ronald Marks, Kevin Mawae, Karlynn O'Shaughnessy, Michael Papajohn and Kevin Ward.
On Wednesday, April 17, the LSU Public Administration Institute and the Public Administration Institute Student Association hosted four former Louisiana governors for a panel regarding the “The Evolution of State and Local Government: A discussion about the last 40 years” as part of PAISA Day. Former Louisiana governors Kathleen Blanco (left) and Edwin Edwards (right) took part of PAISA Day's governor's panel in the rotunda of the Business Education Complex. Former Louisiana governors Murphy "Mike" Foster (left) and Buddy Roemer (right) participated in the governor's panel, which was moderated by Jim Engster, host of “The Jim Engster Show.”
LSU's new Student Government president John Woodard (left) and vice president Taylor Parks (center) met with Interim President and Interim Chancellor William Jenkins. Students in Professor John White's Wetlands and Water Quality class conduct field work in the bayou behind the Energy, Coast and Environment Building on Thursday, April 18. Members of LSU's Facility Services, along with other university employees, enjoyed breakfast courtesy of the chancellor on Wednesday, April 17, at the annual Employee Appreciation Breakfast Reception in the LSU Student Union.
