On Wednesday, March 27, the LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the appointment of F. King Alexander as president of the LSU System and chancellor of LSU, with the understanding that these two positions will be combined under the title of "President of LSU." The president of California State University Long Beach since late 2005, F. King Alexander was recommended by the LSU Presidential Search Committee as the committee's consensus candidate during the March 18 board meeting. In partnership with Louisiana Economic Development and IBM, LSU's College of Engineering will be dramatically expanding its computer science program over the next 3-5 years it was announced a press conference on Wednesday, March 27.
Rick Koubek, dean of the LSU College of Engineering, spoke during the press conference about his college's commitment to developing a mutually beneficial partnership with IBM and LED. David Conover, director of the Division of Ocean Sciences at the National Science Foundation, gave a presentation on Wednesday, March 27, as part of the interview process for the position of vice chancellor in the Office of Research and Economic Development. On Friday, March 22, the E. J. Ourso College of Business held its Hall of Distinction Induction Ceremony. The 2013 Hall of Distinction inductees were William Balhoff, Toni Stephenson and Robert Stuart, pictured with interim LSU President and Chancellor William Jenkins and interim College of Business Dean Richard White.
On Tuesday, March 27, Interim LSU Chancellor William L. Jenkins held the second of two "Chats with the Chancellor" in the LSU Student Union's Live Oak Lounge to talk one-on-one with students, faculty and staff. On Tuesday, March 25, Robert Twilley, executive director of the LSU-based Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, gave a presentation about why Louisiana's coastal issues are a national problem at the LSU Science Cafe at Chelsea's. The azaleas are in bloom throughout campus despite freezing temperatures this week.
