F. King Alexander, president of California State University Long Beach, has been recommended by the Presidential Search Committee as the consensus candidate for the position of President of LSU. On Thursday, March 21, LSU President Designate F. King Alexander met with members of the university staff in a public forum in the LSU Student Union Theater. Alexander also met with the students and faculty in separate public forums. LSU President Designate F. King Alexander met with members of the media during a press conference on Thursday, March 21. Alexander, who was born in Louisville, Ky., and raised in Gainesville, Fla., is especially excited about the opportunity to return to the South and is eager to learn more about LSU’s history and traditions.
On Wednesday, March 20, Interim LSU Chancellor William L. Jenkins held the first of two "Chats with the Chancellor" to talk one-on-one with students, faculty and staff. The second chat will take place on Tuesday, March 26, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Live Oak Lounge of the LSU Student Union. Jerry Miller, former assistant director for Ocean Service at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, gave a presentation on Monday, March 18, as part of the interview process for the position of vice chancellor in the Office of Research and Economic Development. Kevin Smith, the LSU Foundation James C. Bolton Distinguished Professor and professor of chemistry at LSU, was the third of five candidates to give a presentation as part of the interview process to find LSU’s next vice chancellor in the Office of Research and Economic Development
On Thursday, March 21, the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute hosted a press conference in conjunction with a Lemonade Day Louisiana Backpack Stuffing event. Lemonade Day instills entrepreneurship in youth through education, outreach and a workbook that describes how to start a lemonade stand. This year’s Friends of LSU Libraries’ Book Bazaar raised $68,000 for the LSU Foundation’s endowment for the libraries.
