Kalliat T. Valsaraj, LSU associate vice chancellor for research and economic development, presented at an open forum as part of the interview process for the position of vice chancellor for research and economic development on March 14. The National Math and Science Initiative presented a check for $1 million dollars to the LSU Foundation for the GeauxTeach Math/Science teacher preparation program during a reception on Tuesday, March 12, at the LSU Memorial Tower. LSU alumni, corporate partners and a private foundation made gifts totaling $1 million to support students, faculty and programmatic needs. This National Math and Science Initiative match has resulted in a total endowment of $2 million.
LSU’s Office of Research & Economic Development, with the support of Campus Federal Credit Union, held a reception on Wednesday, March 13, to honor its annual Rainmaker Awards for Research and Creative Activity. The Morehouse College Hopps Defense Research Scholars visited LSU on Tuesday, March 12, to learn more about the research and graduate opportunities available at the university. On the Morehouse College Hopps Defense Research Scholars' visit to campus, the LSU Honors College hosted a poster session with presentations by students and faculty from LSU, Southern University, Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Morehouse College.
The LSU Women’s Center presented the annual Esprit de Femme and Men Who Champion Women awards during the first ever sunrise celebration on Thursday, March 14. The azaleas are already in bloom on campus beneath LSU's stately oak trees. The beautiful drake elm trees, with their shiny green leaves, in the Quad.
