LSU’s Hilltop Arboretum educational facility hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the arboretum’s Margaret Holmes Brown Pavilion, to officially announce plans for a $1.28 million expansion project. The new Imogene Newsom Brown Education Facility at LSU's Hilltop Arboretum will more than doubling the existing facility space and will be the first LSU building to be registered with the U.S. Green Building Council for possible LEED certification. LSU hosted its monthly Science Cafe on Tuesday, Feb. 26, as Matthew Lee, associate vice chancellor of research & economic development, shed light on crime issues specific to the Baton Rouge area.
LSU's Science Cafe series is held monthly at Chelsea's on Perkins Road. Science Cafe isn't a lecture, but a lively talk meant to give people to opportunity to ask questions and interact with some of LSU's top faculty. Students and faculty from LSU's Agriculture Residential College recently volunteered at the LSU AgCenter’s Fifth Annual Arbor Day at Burden event, held at the Burden Center. Arbor Day at Burden supports and promotes educational programs conducted by the LSU AgCenter, the Burden Horticulture Society and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
The annual Friends of the LSU Libraries’ 2013 Book Bazaar will be held on Feb. 28-March 2 at the 4-H Mini-Farm and Nelson Memorial Buildings. Hours of operation for the event will be 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s Book Bazaar will have more than 68,000 books, as well as an ample collection of CDs, DVDs, sheet music and vinyl record albums. The 2013 Book Bazaar is dedicated to the memory of Patricia Boyet Millican, one of seven founding members of the Friends of the LSU Libraries and co-treasurer of countless Book Bazaars, and Zelda Klein Long, long-time committee member and dedicated Book Barn volunteer.
