Martin Palouš, former ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States of America and current director of the Vaclav Havel Library in Prague, spoke at LSU on Thursday, Feb. 14. The lecture was sponsored by the Eric Voegelin Institute, the LSU Department of Political Science and ISI at LSU. Along with future President Vaclav Havel, Martin Palouš was a leader in the underground movement resisting Soviet tyranny in the period leading up to the Velvet Revolution of 1989. His lecture at LSU was titled, “Vaclav Havel: Resisting Tyranny and Making the Velvet Revolution.” Students from the College of Agriculture Residential College toured the LSU AgCenter’s LaHouse Home and Landscape Resource Center Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Located on Gourrier Avenue, LaHouse serves as a research-based showcase of solutions and educational outreach program on using more sustainable products in home building. Designers Natasha Popich Miller, left, and Stephanie Young fielded questions about their experiences while in the school’s Textile, Apparel and Merchandising program and how they found their niches in the fashion industry. After touring LaHouse, the students had the chance to quiz two recent College of Ag alumni about their work in the fashion design industry.
