During the LSU Salutes celebration, 12 distinguished alumni were inducted into the military Hall of Honor. The inductees, all of whom must have attended LSU and served in the military, are selected based on their involvement with the university, as well as with the military and community. LSU Salutes, sponsored by the university and the Cadets of the Ole War Skule, is an annual celebration of the contributions of U.S. veterans, in particular those who attended LSU and served in ROTC. LSU's military history began more than 150 years ago when the university opened under Superintendent William Tecumseh Sherman and was never more evident than during World War II, when it boasted more officers on active duty than any other institution in the nation other than the military academies.
After being delayed due to Hurricane Sandy, the Barnes & Noble at LSU official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Saturday, Nov. 10, prior to the Homecoming game against Mississippi State. Fans enjoyed spending time in the new Barnes & Noble at LSU after the ribbon-cutting event prior to LSU's Homecoming game against Mississippi State. During the Homecoming game halftime festivities, LSU crowned its new Homecoming king and queen - king Taylor Cox and queen Kendall Knobloch.
The 2012 Homecoming Court enjoyed a luncheon with their families and guests on Saturday afternoon prior to the Homecoming game. One of the featured luncheon speakers was 1942 Homecoming Queen Lillie Major “Pigeon” Thibaut (seated in the center) from New Roads. As part of the Homecoming tailgate, sponsored by the Homecoming Student Committee, there was a zip line on the Parade Ground. Mike the Tiger participated in the Homecoming parade as it made it way through campus.
Some of LSU's youngest Tiger fans enjoyed the Homecoming Parade as it made its way around campus. The Golden Band from Tigerland marches down Victory Hill before entering Tiger Stadium for LSU's Homecoming game against Mississippi State. The Golden Band from Tigerland and the Golden Girls take the field during pregame of LSU's 2012 homecoming game against Mississippi State.
During halftime of the 2012 Homecoming game against Mississippi State, the Golden Band from Tigerland and the Golden Girls paid tribute to U.S. veterans as part of LSU Salutes. LSU knocked off nationally ranked Mississippi State in Tiger Stadium, 37-17, during the 2012 Homecoming game. Including a 19-yard touchdown, wide receiver Jarvis Landry led the Tigers with nine catches for 109 yards in LSU's win over nationally ranked Mississippi State in Tiger Stadium.
