LSU held Public Safety Day on Wednesday, Nov. 7, on Tower Drive near the Student Union. In addition to promoting safety habits and awareness through public interaction with the LSU Police Department, bike registration for the City of Baton Rouge was also available. During Public Safety Day, LSU Police officers were available to speak with and answer questions about safety on campus and crime prevention. Students could also meet LSU's drug detection dog, Meggie, and bomb detection dog, Sendy. The Manship School of Mass Communication and Professor Lou Day hosted more than 20 French-speaking journalists from West Africa, with funding from the Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists. Visitors observed a presentation on polling and the 2012 election given by Michael Climek of the Public Policy Research Lab.
On Wednesday, Nov. 7, LSU's Black Male Leadership Initiative hosted its second annual Preview Day for participants to learn more about LSU and college admission requirements and to encourage them to begin preparing for college while they are in high school. Among the events for the more than 100 students who participated in LSU's Black Male Leadership Initiative Preview Day was a "hype" session with Mike the Tiger. LSU's Campus Communicators group met on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the LSU Museum of Art, getting to tour the exhibits and the facility located in the Shaw Center for the Arts in downtown Baton Rouge.
Various student groups on campus promoted their events and causes in Union Plaza, also known as Free Speech Plaza. The banners hanging from the front of the Union in the background are part of homecoming's student organization banner competition. There is always something going on in the Union Plaza, which is more commonly known as Free Speech Plaza. Fireworks go off as LSU runs through the tunnel prior to last Saturday's game against No. 1 Alabama, just the fourth matchup of two top five-ranked teams in Tiger Stadium history.
