On Oct. 2, Gov. Bobby Jindal announced a $100 million public-private partnership to renovate and expand Patrick F. Taylor Hall at LSU to create a new state-of-the-art engineering education complex. The governor said his administration will support $50 million in capital outlay funding for the project and the remaining funds will be covered by private donations. LSU College of Engineering Dean Richard Koubek discussed the renovation and expansion of Patrick F. Taylor Hall, which will give the College of Engineering more than 380,000 square feet of academic space. The architectural design phase will start in December with construction slated to begin in the fall 2014, and the project is estimated to be complete by fall 2016. On Oct. 4, LSU hosted the fourth in a series of Presidential Election Forums, which focused specifically on healthcare, in the Rotunda of the Business Education Complex. Students, faculty and staff are invited to join in on the conversation by using the hashtag #LSUvotes on Twitter.
A steel globe sculpture was added this week to complete the memorial fountain in the Komma and Allam Remembrance Garden at the International Cultural Center, which was built in remembrance of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, two LSU international graduate students from India who were killed in 2007. As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the LSU Hispanic Student Cultural Society held the Hispanic Showcase on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Free Speech Circle. Last weekend, LSU held its annual Family Weekend activities, which allows LSU parents and families to reconnect with the university, experience campus life with their LSU student and enjoy the campus energy on game day.
