LSU broke ground on the new LSU Olinde Career Center, the future home of LSU Career Services, on Thursday, May 10. The LSU Olinde Career Center will bring together Career Services’ two current locations in a new state-of-the-art environment in the LSU Student Union at the site of the current bookstore. Many groups of people came together to celebrate the groundbreaking for the LSU Olinde Career Center, including donors, employers, faculty, staff, students and alumni. LSU Career Services’ staff (pictured above) assists students and alumni in career development – from identifying a career and curriculum to complement their strengths, to developing proven job-search skills and connecting with potential employers.
ExxonMobil presented the LSU Foundation with a $1,034,765 gift on behalf of the ExxonMobil Foundation during a May 7 reception in the LSU Student Union. The gift represents ExxonMobil Foundation's match of 2011 employee, retiree and surviving spouse eligible donations. The Department of Mechanical Engineering recently hosted the annual Capstone Design II presentations in the courtyard of Patrick F. Taylor Hall. Mechanical engineering undergraduates work throughout two semesters on a design project of their choice and are judged by industry leaders and LSU faculty and alumni. LSU archaeologists excavate a section of the LSU Mounds in order to learn more about their past. The LSU Mounds date back approximately 6,000 years to the Archaic period and are some of the oldest Native American mounds found in Louisiana.
