This Week in Pictures | 03/17/2012 - 03/23/2012

On Thursday, March 22, LSU, the LSU Rural Life Museum and L’Auberge Baton Rouge announced a $1.3 million partnership. Pictured (from left to right) are Chancellor Michael Martin; Mickey Parenton, vice president and general manager of L’Auberge Baton Rouge; and David Floyd, director of the Rural Life Museum LSU's partnership with L'Auberge Baton Rouge will ensure the preservation of artifacts found on the former Chatsworth and Longwood Plantation properties. Chatsworth Plantation encompassed 575 acres of land along Nicholson Drive dating back to the 19th century. The plantation house, which is no longer standing, is pictured above. LSU’s College of Engineering held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the new Chevron Reservoir Characterization Lab on the third floor of Patrick F. Taylor Hall on Wednesday, March 21.
Chevron's gift to LSU is a continuation of its relationship with the university and part of the company's University Partnership Program, affecting multiple programs at LSU. While the lab program will be based in the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering, it will benefit students in petroleum engineering, geology and geophysics. The Chevron Reservoir Characterization Lab is a facility for interdisciplinary research and teaching in the College of Engineering, with an emphasis on advancing the art and practice of oil and gas reservoir modeling. The Chevron Reservoir Characterization Lab includes a high-resolution video wall with rendering server, high performance workstations and a storage array.
On Wednesday, March 21, the LSU Student Health Center hosted the 29th annual Wellness Fair in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom in the LSU Student Union. More than 50 campus and community health and wellness agencies participated in the Wellness Fair. In addition, non-perishable food items were collected as part of the Heart Healthy Food Drive. At the Wellness Fair, health and wellness agencies provided free information and health screenings including those for heart rate, blood pressure, glucose, vision, height, weight, cholesterol, body mass and HIV.
