Hundreds of distinguished members of the community and members of the E. J. Ourso College of Business family celebrated the near completion of the college's new home, the Business Education Complex, on Friday, March 2, that was years in the making for the college and the cornerstone project of the Forever LSU Campaign. Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, served as keynote speaker for the Business Education Complex ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, March 2, and lauded the completion of the Business Education Complex as an opportunity for the future. The new Business Education Complex is composed of four buildings, totaling 156,000 square feet of learning and research environments, classrooms, labs and offices for faculty and college administration.
On Monday, March 5, the LSU College of Engineering held a groundbreaking ceremony to add a new classroom at the LSU Petroleum Engineering Research & Technology Transfer Laboratory. Donald W. and Gayle A. Keller established the Petroleum Engineering Building Fund to fund the construction of a new classroom at the PERTT Lab. LSU broke ground on the 85,000-square-foot Choppin Hall Annex in Aug. 2010. The building will serve as a five-story addition to the current chemistry building and boast a 63 percent expansion of laboratory space to the current facility. Ground was broken on the new Louisiana Digital Media Center at LSU in July 2011. The new 94,000-square-foot center will eventually be home to the EA North American Test Center, LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology and the AVATAR initiative at LSU.
Construction continues on East Laville Hall. The residential hall will reopen for fall 2012 after an extensive, multi-million dollar renovation. West Laville Hall completed its renovations in the fall of 2010. East Laville and West Laville Halls make up the Honors House and are home to students in the Honors College. Construction continues on the parking garage on the corner of Highland Road and Raphael Semmes Road that will house the new campus bookstore, Women's Center and African American Cultural Center. LSU's beautiful azaleas are blooming throughout campus as various shades of pink are popping up all around.
