On Feb. 27, Richard Billo, associate vice president for research at the University of Texas at Arlington, presented at an open forum as part of the interview process for the position of vice chancellor in the Office of Research & Economic Development, or ORED. He is the first of three candidates to interview for the role. LSU welcomed the first of four candidates for the position of executive vice chancellor & provost to campus for an open forum on Thursday, March 1. Robert “Bobby” Schnabel, dean of the School of Informatics at Indiana University, met with members of LSU’s faculty and staff in the Claude L. Shaver Theatre. The LSU Student Union Art Gallery is currently exhibiting the winners and chosen participants of the annual LSU Student Art Show. The competition provided LSU undergraduate students an opportunity to submit original artwork for a chance to win $2,400 in cash or gift certificate awards.
The annual Friends of the LSU Libraries’ Book Bazaar will be held March 1-3 at the 4-H Mini-Farm and Nelson Memorial Buildings. The sale will be open until 7 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s sale will have more than 60,000 books, as well as CDs, DVDs, sheet music and vinyl record albums. This year's Book Bazaar will offer books in dozens of categories, from contemporary fiction and non-fiction to rare and collectible books. The books come in all forms and sizes, from hardback to leather-bound and from oversized to very small, and most are priced at less than $10, with many titles selling for $1. Last year, the Friends of the LSU Libraries' Book Bazaar raised $73,000 for the Friends of the LSU Libraries’ endowment fund. Over the last 35 years, the Friends of the LSU Libraries have raised more than $1.5 million for that endowment fund.
The LSU Student Union, the hub of student life on campus, completed its major five-year renovation a year ago. The colors of spring begin to make an appearances on campus in the Quad. With the unseasonably warm temperatures, LSU's beautiful azaleas are blooming much earlier than usual this year as beautiful shades of pink are popping up all around campus.
