LSU recognized 1,651 graduates at the university’s 276th commencement exercises on campus Friday, Dec. 16. Each college held separate ceremonies to recognize their own individual students. LSU Chancellor Michael Martin was the keynote speaker for the LSU College of Engineering.
Ten LSU seniors received University Medals for graduating with the highest undergraduate grade-point averages as part of LSU’s 276th commencement exercises. The medalists were honored at a special ceremony held on Thursday, Dec. 15, at the LSU Faculty Club.
Holly Cullen, LSU Assistant Vice Chancellor in the Office of Communications & University Relations, received her hood for earning her Ph.D. during the fall commencement ceremony.
LSU's College of Engineering graduates prepare for the commencement ceremony in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. The fall commencement ceremonies marked the first time graduates have worn the new commencement gowns, undergraduates wore purple gowns with the LSU logo embroidered on the chest. The LSU College of Music and Dramatic Arts held its commencement ceremony in the Claude L. Shaver Theatre in the Music & Dramatic Arts Building. The Manship School of Mass Communication held its commencement ceremony in the Bo Campbell Auditorium in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Sean Reilly, CEO of Lamar Advertising, was the keynote speaker. The Manship School of Mass Communication awarded 57 degrees during its fall commencement ceremony, among them were 52 bachelor's degrees and five master's degrees.
The LSU College of Agriculture held its commencement ceremony in the Student Recreation Complex. Ken Bondioli, associate professor in the School of Animal Sciences, was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Former LSU basketball star and current Charlotte Bobcat Tyrus Thomas recently held the Tyrus Thomas Foundation's "Suits and Sneakers" benefit gala. Thomas (left) is pictured with LSU junior Joshua Hollins at the gala. The Tyrus Thomas Foundation, or TTF, which has recently partnered with LSU's Black Male Leadership Initiative, held its "Suits and Sneakers" benefit gala on Nov. 11. The LSU Community University Partnership's “Fresh Cuts, Clean Health” barbershop initiative recently hosted a “Brother to Brother” educational outreach session at United Methodist Church to discuss health topics.
