LSU Chancellor Michael Martin addressed incoming students at the Chancellor's Welcome celebration on Sunday, Aug. 21, in the Maravich Center. The annual Chancellor's Welcome celebration welcomes students to campus at the start of the fall semester in a fun and spirited way. Students attending the Chancellor's Welcome celebration were treated to food and refreshments, including jambalaya. Members of the LSU Ambassadors, student leaders chosen to aid the university's orientation and recruitment programs, encourage pride and spirit in the LSU community and provide diligent service to the LSU campus. Students who have either served or are currently serving in any branch of the nation’s armed forces were also recently welcomed to campus.
On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the LSU Honors College welcomed author Bruce Watson to address Honors College students and the LSU community at the Honors College Convocation on the LSU Union Ballroom. Author Bruce Watson was invited to speak after his book, “Freedom Summer: The Savage Season That Made Mississippi Burn and Made America a Democracy,” was chosen for the Honors College 2011 Summer Shared Reading Program. The intent of the Honors Shared Reading Program is to give new honors students a common experience and to introduce them to the culture of the Honors College, which emphasizes LSU’s Commitment to Community.
