On Wednesday, July 27, Gov. Bobby Jindal joined Electronic Arts Inc. Head of Worldwide Quality Assurance Mike Robinson, LSU Chancellor Michael Martin, East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden and other officials to break ground on the 94,000-square-foot Louisiana Digital Media Center. LSU Chancellor Mike Martin noted that in addition to housing EA and LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology, the Louisiana Digital Media Center will be home to the new AVATAR initiative at LSU. At Wednesday's groundbreaking, Gov. Bobby Jindal said, “We are proud to make Louisiana the permanent home of EA’s North American Test Center as part of LSU’s Digital Media Center.”
The $29.3 million Louisiana Digital Media Center will be a three-story structure on LSU’s main campus and is being funded by state capital outlay dollars and LED funds. The U.S. Economic Development Administration also contributed a $3 million grant for the center. Pete Earley, author of One Book One Community’s 2011 summer selection, “Crazy: A Father’s Search Through America’s Mental Health Madness,” spoke at LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student Athletes on Thursday, July 28. Journalist Pete Earley's book, "Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness," was one of two finalists for a 2007 Pulitzer Prize. Early spoke to the One Book One Community on Thursday, July 28, at LSU.
