LSU alumna Donna Brazile, keynote speaker, vice chair for the Democratic National Committee and managing director for Brazile & Associates LLC, and Alecia Long, LSU assistant professor of history, at the Listening to Louisiana Women Symposium, May 25 at the Louisiana State Museum. Elaine Maccio, LSU School of Social Work assistant professor, participated in the panel “How Can Oral History Help Transform Our Communities?” during the Listening to Louisiana Women Symposium. Marybeth Lima, director for the Center for Community Engagement, Learning and Leadership and alumni professor of biological and agricultural engineering; Gaines Foster, dean of the LSU College of Humanities & Social Sciences; Alecia Long, assistant professor of history, during the Listening to Louisiana Women Symposium.
The LSU Memorial Oak Grove, which is located just south of the present day Student Union, was dedicated in 1926. There are 30 trees, each dedicated to a fallen soldier who gave his life in service to the United States. One tree is dedicated to The Unknown, representing all who are missing in action This ancient tree sits atop the historic LSU Indian Mounds Construction on the Choppin Hall Annex began in August 2010. Upon completion, it will open 140 faculty workstations and lab spaces. The annex has been on LSU’s capital outlay request since 2000.
