Members of LSU's Leading Edge program celebrated the end of the year at Chancellor Michael Martin’s house. Leading Edge member Elaine Giles delivered an address to her classmates about how the program helped her find her place at the university. First Year Experience Assistant Director Missy Korduner opened the festivities. Leading Edge is a program coordinated by Campus Life and First Year Experience dedicated to helping freshmen succeed at LSU Kurt Keppler, vice chancellor for student life and enrollment services, delivered the banquet’s keynote address, calling on the students to continue their pursuit of leadership opportunities.
Thirty-seven members of the LSU Leading Edge program celebrated the end of the year with a closing banquet and awards ceremony at LSU Chancellor Michael Martin’s house. Members of the media were present at LSU’s School of the Coast & Environment for U.S. Sen. David Vitter’s (right) announcement of the Natural Resources Restoration Act of 2011. Billy Nungesser (left), president of Plaquemines Parish, was also present. Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser joined U.S. Sen. David Vitter to introduce the Natural Resources Restoration Act of 2011 at LSU on Monday, April 18.
Sen. Mary Landrieu recently toured the Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center, located at LSU’s South Campus. The BEOC works to enhance the state’s emergency management efforts by supporting the continuity of business and industry during and after a crisis or emergency. Sen. Mary Landrieu meets with LSU mechanical engineering alumnus Richard "Dick" Juneau of HydroFlame, a company in the Louisiana Business & Technology Center developing clean energy technology for the oil and gas exploration industry. LSU Louisiana Business & Technology Center Executive Director Charles D’Agostino discusses the LSU Innovation Park, LSU’s premier research park, with U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu during her recent visit to the LBTC.
The APLU Council of Presidents’ and Chancellors’ Spouses held their spring planning meeting on campus this week. Executive Committee Chair Jan Martin, wife of Chancellor Michael Martin, hosted the meeting at LSU to develop topics for programs at the annual fall meeting of APLU. The LSU baseball team celebrates Math Awareness Month. The LSU Kiwanis Club held its annual jambalaya fundraiser at Nelson Memorial on April 14, with proceeds benefiting local community groups.
