J. K. Haynes, dean of science and mathematics at Morehouse College, is visiting Baton Rouge on April 7-8 to speak to LSU and Southern University. Haynes gave a presentation, titled “Research as a Quintessential Means of Achieving the Goals of a Liberal Arts Education,” on Thursday, April 7. On Friday, April 8, at 3 p.m., J.K. Haynes will speak in the Cox Communications Academic Center to faculty and post-doctoral researchers, as well as students, discussing “Institutional Support for the Changing Nature of Faculty Work Over a Career.” 2011 Black Scholars Awards recipients: Ariel Lucius, Dean Carolyn Collins Distinguished Scholar and Citizenship Award; Collin Miller, Huel Perkins Leadership Award; Le’Brian Patrick, Charles Harrington Graduate Student Award; Melissa Ogbourne, Jesse Owens Athletic Award; Paul Nyaaba, W.E.B. DuBois Award; and Lance Frank, A.P. Tureaud Milestone Award.

The Friends of the LSU Libraries Book Barn are hosting the 2011 Book Bazaar until Saturday, April 9, at the 4-H Mini-Barn and Nelson Memorial Buildings near the John M. Parker Coliseum.
The Book Bazaar, organized and run by the Friends of the LSU Libraries and the Book Barn Volunteers, will be open until 7 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday will open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. One of the "greenest" events on campus, the Book Bazaar has more than 60,000 books for sale, weighing in at more than 25 tons. The books come in all forms and sizes, from hardback to leather bound and oversized to extremely small, and most cost less than $10, with some titles being sold for less than $1. The Office of Campus Planning recently completed a campus wide Bike Facilities Master Plan. Phase I was completed in December 2009 and provided 750 bike parking spaces primarily in the quad area, and Phase II was completed in Spring 2010 and provided an additional 350 bike parking spaces.
