On Wednesday, March 16, the LSU Faculty Senate sponsored a Faculty Senate-Chancellor Forum, titled “Leaping Off the Cliff or Over the Chasm: LSU During and After the Recession,” in the Shaver Theater in the Music & Dramatic Arts Building. Chancellor Michael Martin provided attendees with commentary on the finances of the university, while addressing the budget and upcoming legislative session, at the Faculty Senate-Chancellor Forum. David Kurpius was the fifth and final candidate to interview for the position of dean of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication. Associate dean of undergraduate studies & administration at the Manship School, Kurpius gave his “Vision Talk” on March 14.
LSU’s College of Music & Dramatic Arts held a press conference Thursday outside the LSU School of Music building to announce a cultural partnership with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The partnership includes an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant, which will underwrites LPO’s residency at LSU through the month of May. CMDA Dean Laurence Kaptain added that the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra is also supporting a benefit concert performance of Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 7” by the LPO at the LSU Student Union Theater on Thursday, May 5. Proceeds from this concert will assist CMDA’s scholarship fund.
