Peter Kovacs was the third candidate to interview for the position of dean of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication. The managing editor of the Times-Picayune in New Orleans, Kovacs visited campus from Tuesday, March 1, through Thursday, March 3, and gave his “Vision Talk” on March 1. Members of the New York Foreign Press came to LSU on Friday, Feb. 25, for a panel discussion featuring LSU faculty and oil spill experts from across campus. LSU's Eugene Turner, Darryl Bourgoyne, Ralph Portier and Christopher D'Elia, along with the University of Maryland's Donald Boesch, met with members of the New York Foreign Press to discuss the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster.
CCT researchers demonstrated their 3D “off-the-shelf virtual reality” at TechPawLooza on Thursday, March 3. LSU faculty, staff and students enjoyed the interactive displays and faculty showcases at TechPawLooza on Thursday, March 3, in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom. Visitors were able to check out the latest Apple products at the inaugural TechPawLooza event hosted by LSU Information Technology Services.
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, LSU Chancellor Michael Martin participated in Read Across America day at Buchanan Elementary on Wednesday, March 2. Joining LSU Chancellor Michael Martin in participating in Read Across America day were approximately 25 LSU faculty and staff who read at Buchanan Elementary and 50 students, including Miss LSU Megan Miller, who read at Polk Elementary. "Read Across America" day, in its 14th year in 2011, is the nation's largest reading celebration. The annual event, begun by the National Education Association, is a reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.
LSU Chancellor Michael Martin, Buchanan Elementary Principal Patrice Hudson, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Superintendent John Dilworth and LSU Community Affairs Liaison Brandon Smith at Read Across America Day at Buchanan Elementary. Chamber music sponsored by the School of Music and the Honors College could be heard on Tuesday, March 1, in the grand salon of the LSU French House as part of the “Music at French House: First Tuesdays at Noon” series. Having debuted in March 2008, the “Music at French House: First Tuesdays at Noon” series gives many on campus the opportunity to listen to music and be refreshed as they eat their lunch.
On Friday, Feb. 25, LSU Police arranged for a Louisiana State Police Helicopter to make a visit to the children of the LSU Child Care Center. Students taking advantage of the beautiful, spring-like weather in the Quad. Students relaxing in the newly completed LSU Student Union.
