In partnership with LSU’s College of Engineering, the Manship School of Mass Communication’s Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs hosted a community lecture featuring Gavriel Salvendy on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Salvendy discussed the value of LSU’s research and economic impact on the regional, national and international stage. Scott Shamp was the first of five candidates to interview for the position of dean of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication. A professor in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia and director of Georgia’s New Media Institute, Shamp interviewed on Monday, Feb. 14. Touted as China’s new “guru of productivity” by the Wall Street Journal, Gavriel Salvendy, served as a Reilly Center Public Policy Fellow Feb. 15-17. He met with legislators, members of the academic community, business leaders, students and citizens on the value of LSU.
The Action Institute’s Samuel Gregg delivered his lecture, "The Spirit of Capitalism: Why Max Weber Was Wrong about Commercial Society," on Thursday, Feb. 17, in Hill Memorial Library and was co-sponsored by the Program in the Classical Tradition of Learning and Leadership and the Department of Political Science. Students take advantage of the spring-like temperatures to relax on the Parade Ground. Professor Elecia Lathon's Planning, Managing, and Evaluating School Instruction class takes advantage of the spring-like weather.
