LSU celebrated its sesquicentennial, or 150th, anniversary in 2010. The yearlong celebration officially kicked off on Jan. 19, beginning a year of historical reflection, celebration and commitment. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff participated in “Defend Public Education Day” on Oct. 7, with a jazz funeral procession on the LSU Parade Ground. The event at LSU was organized to raise awareness of the impact of proposed budget cuts. Responding to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine provided medical care for animals directly affected by the oil spill along the Gulf Coast and medical care for non-oiled injured animals brought to LSU by state and/or animal rescue groups.

As a part of the club’s mission, the members strive to make cycling part of their lifestyle.
As part of LSU's proud military tradition, the university held its annual Memorial Day and wreath-laying ceremony to honor former LSU students and all veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. On Friday, Sept. 17, the LSU Sesquicentennial Fall Fest celebration welcomed more than 30,000 new and returning students, faculty and staff to campus in the LSU Quadrangle and Exxon Quad and featured a performance by the Tiger Band. As part of LSU's sesquicentennial anniversary and Homecoming Week celebration, LSU opened its doors to the public on Nov. 13, for LSU Day — a free, fun-filled day of exploration and discovery showing off LSU's rich history, current offerings and goals for the future.
