Ten LSU seniors received University Medals for graduating with the highest undergraduate grade-point averages as part of LSU’s 273rd commencement exercises. The medalists were honored at a special ceremony held on Thursday, Dec 16, at the LSU Faculty Club. To mark LSU's 150th anniversary in 2010, each graduate received a commemorative diploma reminiscent of the diplomas issued at the university’s first commencement ceremony in 1869. The masthead and verbiage of the original diplomas was preserved in this commemorative edition. The College of Art & Design held its fall commencement ceremony in the Swine Palace.
Marco J. Barker, LSU's assistant to the vice provost for Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach, was one of 27 LSU faculty and staff members to graduate during fall commencement. Barker earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Research. The Manship School of Mass Communication held its commencement ceremony at the Bo Campbell Auditorium in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Not only is commencement a celebration for the graduate, but is a source of pride for the graduate's family and friends.
