were also there to promote the “Rally for Higher Education” on Nov. 10 at the State Capitol. “From the Top,” hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley, the preeminent showcase for young musicians, was on LSU's campus on Tuesday, Nov. 2, for a taping of its radio program.
Young musicians from Louisiana who were featured on "From the Top" included the Red
Hot Brass Band from New Orleans. The episode will air nationally the week of Dec. 13, and
will be heard in the Baton Rouge area on 89.3 WRKF on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. Mark Vandermark, LSU Tiger Band instrument repair technician, shows a piece of a refurbished
clarinet to a student at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts. The clarinet is one of many instruments donated to the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts as part of a community
outreach program putting used instruments in the hands of area schoolchildren. Marcus Rose, 17, of Shreveport plays the viola during an event on Monday, Nov. 1, at the Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts. Rose is one of numerous young Louisiana musicians that performed during a taping of "From the Top," on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
The LSU Stephen Entrepreneurship Institute of the E. J. Ourso College of Business, along with the Campus Life Student Activities Board, hosted Blake Mycoskie, founder and chief shoe giver of TOMS shoes, as part of the institute’s Entrepreneurship Speaker Series, on Monday, Nov. 1. During “An Evening with Blake Mycoskie,” the TOMS shoes founder spoke about how the purchasing power of individuals can benefit the greater good by transforming customers into benefactors. The most recently selected Shelton Fellows had the opportunity to dine with benefactor James D. “Denny” Shelton in October.
