Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, or BOEMRE, Director Michael Bromwich (right) visited with LSU petroleum engineering students and faculty on Tuesday, Oct. 26, to recruit students for new opportunities in public service with BOEMRE. At the LSU Energy Summit 2010: Deep Exploration and the Future of the Gulf of Mexico, Jim Diffley of I.H.S. Global Insight presented “The Future of Independent Oil Companies in the Gulf of Mexico.” Students participate in Biology 1208, a lab class for science majors.
Mass Communication senior Zac Lemoine and Student Government Vice President Dani Borel send e-mails to House Speaker Jim Tucker asking him to defend LSU against budget cuts and encouraged WhatNow LSU attendees to do the same. Approximately 350 students wrote letters and sent e-mails using smartphones to House Speaker Jim Tucker and members of the Louisiana Legislature at the WhatNow LSU event on Thursday, Oct. 28. LSU Student Government President J Hudson encouraged students to stand up and take action against higher education budget cuts at WhatNow LSU – The Event on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Cox Auditorium.
Former LSU System President William Jenkins give the presentation, "Why Collections are Important for Universities," on Wednesday, Oct. 27, in conjunction with the LSU Student Union Art Gallery’s exhibit, "From Gemstones to Dinosaur Bones: Discovering the Treasures of LSU." The LSU Student Union Art Gallery’s exhibit, "From Gemstones to Dinosaur Bones: Discovering the Treasures of LSU," runs through Sunday, Nov. 14, and is free and open to the public. Nearly a thousand Baton Rouge area children took advantage of the early Halloween celebration during "Trick or Treat Down the Row" on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
The trick-or-treaters were greeted by students, faculty and staff handing out candy along West Lakeshore Drive's Sorority Row. The West Campus Apartments hosted "Fun Night" for children<br> of LSU international students on Wednesday, Oct. 27. In addition to "Fun Night" (above) and "Trick or Treat Down the Row," LSU also held "Boo in the Shoe"for on-campus residents and the athletic department held the BOOzar, both on Thursday, Oct. 28.
