The Robert Penn Warren Prize in Poetry
given to the best poem or group of poems published in The Southern Review each volume year

With awarding a poetry prize in the name of one of the founding editors of the journal, The Southern Review recognizes the extraordinary contributions Mr. Warren made to the world of poetry throughout his long life in words. Winner of a Pulitzer Prize for poetry (1959) and another one for fiction (1947), he was also the recipient of the Bollingen Prize in Poetry, the National Medal for Literature, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to list only a smattering of his honors. In 1986, he was named the first Poet Laureate of the United States.
