FYE offers a number of other programs that promote student success during their first year and beyond. Bengal Book Group, Bengals Beyond the Bayou, Commuter Programs, Seaux Stressed, Fall Harvest and First Fridays are all part of our signature programs.
Bengal Book Group is simple. Students vote on books they want to read. FYE buys the books. Students read one book a month, then meet to discuss.
If you love reading or are just looking for a way to meet other students, then Bengal Book Group is for you. Just pick up a book at FYE, read it, and come to the meeting to join.
In case you need extra incentive, students that participate in Bengal Book Group tend to do better in their English classes. They gain valuable skills analyzing and discussing literary elements but mostly just have a good time.
Feb. 13, 2017: Anthem -- Ayn Rand
March 20, 2017: A Clockwork Orange -- Anthony Burgess
April 18, 2015: The Circle -- Dave Eggers

Louisiana is unique. If you're coming from out of state, the food and culture may seem foreign at first. Don't worry though because you'll soon learn to love it.
Bengals Beyond the Bayou is a series of programs designed to help out-of-state students learn about Baton Rouge and Louisiana. Most of the events occur during the fall semester and serve as a great way to explore the area around LSU. You'll also meet plenty of other out-of-state students along the way.

Not every first year student lives on campus. FYE knows that.
It's a little harder for commuters to attend some of our events, so we designed a programming series just for you. Our offices in Johnston Hall aren't far away from the Tiger Trail bus stop and many commuter parking lots, which makes it a great location for commuter events. Stop by on your way to or from class for our commuter lunch or breakfast, and stay on the lookout for our Commuter Appreciation Week events.
View the commuter student resources page to access additional information to help make your commute an easy one.
Join us for the first Friday of each month in Johnston Hall for breakfast. Chat with the FYE staff about your semester and share with us about your LSU experience. We're here to help answer any questions you may have.

Get your mind off of midterms and unwind with FYE. Join us each semester for a relaxing event with puppies, test strategies, yoga, etc. We'll help you de-stress and connect you with the academic resources you'll need to succeed.
Each fall semester, FYE celebrates all of the best things about fall with students' favorite fall activities. Students can enjoy an outdoor Halloween movie, pumpkin painting, tours of haunted houses and more!
