The pursuit of leadership opportunities and scholarships play an important role within the LSU ALD Chapter. LSU ALD co-adviser, Dr. Missy Korduner said, “The LSU Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta’s primary purpose is to provide support to current LSU students and to positively enhance their collegiate experience.” Dr. Korduner continued, “Once initiated into the Chapter, students have the chance to pursue leadership opportunities and apply for scholarships that will enhance or support their education – whether that is to support a study abroad experience, an undergraduate experience or beyond by furthering their education through graduate school.”
ALD is a national honor society for first year students, who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and rank in the top 20 percent of their class. Eligible students are invited to join ALD after their first semester or year at a university. The LSU ALD Chapter is advised by LSU First Year Experience (FYE), a unit on campus dedicated to helping first year students’ transition to college. The LSU Chapter is co-advised by FYE director, Dr. Missy Korduner and Department of Textiles, Apparel Design, and Merchandising instructor, Mrs. Elva Bourgeois. Since its founding in 1933, the LSU Chapter has grown to see over 11,000 initiates.
