Tutor

The Center for Academic Success provides quality peer tutoring in Middleton Library. Tutors assist students with homework, projects and assignments; help students understand concepts; and apply effective learning strategies. Tutoring peers is a rewarding experience as tutors not only empower their peers, but also strengthen their own conceptual knowledge and academic performance. Qualifications   
  • LSU undergraduate student
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Credit or completion of the following courses with an A or B: For math tutoring: Math 1550/1552 or Math 1431 (must have an A); For chemistry tutoring: Chem 1201/1202; For physics tutoring: Phys 2110/2112 or Phys 2001/2002 (must have A)
Requirements   
  • Participate in a two-semester certification program
  • Attend all tutor meetings

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader

Supplemental Instruction is an exemplary, peer-led academic assistance program designed to help students succeed in challenging courses. Supplemental Instruction leaders collaborate with faculty to organize and deliver additional study sessions to aid students in learning course material. APPLY ONLINE »

Qualifications  
  • An overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • A grade of 3.0 or above in the selected course (Prior enrollment with course instructor is preferred.)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
Requirements  
  • Participate in a two day training workshop
  • Conduct two or three weekly study sessions
  • Attend all classes for SI course
  • Meet with SI course instructor throughout semester

Academic Support Graduate Assistant

Academic Support Graduate Assistants conduct observations of Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders, assist in SI leader training and collect and verify paperwork turned in to the SI program. Academic Empowerment Graduate Assistant

The Center for Academic Success hires graduate assistants to provide individual academic coaching to assist students with learning strategies, time management, test anxiety, study skills and exam preparation. These graduate assistants will be integral to CAS workshops, presentations, marketing, communication and assessment efforts as well as other projects as needed. An ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, networking, and time management skills; flexible work availability during regular business hours with available evenings/occasional weekends for outreach; and enrolled in graduate curriculum in the areas of counseling, social work, education or closely related field.
