Sales Management (Print Sales Manager, Broadcast Sales Manager) Each semester sales managers are selected to oversee the print sales team and the broadcast sales team. Managers are responsible for the following:

  • Hire your own sales staff
  • Manage their team to achieve sales goals
  • Supervise and monitor personal, individual and team sales efforts
  • Coordinate efforts with the design and production teams
  • Work with the professional adviser to set revenue goals for each product every semester
  • Monitor collection of outstanding advertisement payments due
  • Train the sales staff and hold regular team meetings
  • Develop and maintain a client account list
  • Train sales staff to understand and execute department policies on billing, credit status, and collections
  • Oversee all client contracts
  • Maintain appropriate office hours and manage personal sales efforts
  • Handle payroll for your staff
  • Handle complaint phone calls
  • Additional Print manager duties include:
  • Hiring and managing the print production and layout staff
  • Handling or monitoring the classifieds operation
  • Sending press and print orders to the printing vendors
  • Sending run sheets to business manager and advertising manager
  • Ensuring tear-sheets are sent out in a timely manner
  • Additional Broadcast manager duties include:
  • Making sure the sponsor identification announcements are produced within FCC guidelines for non-commercial stations by the production staff.
  • Turning in broadcast orders with instructions to the traffic manager for scheduling
  • Turning in all insertion orders to business manager and advertising director
  • Supervising production of KLSU and Tiger TV spots.
  • Monitoring KLSU traffic logs.

Print Sales Rep (The Reveille, Reveille Special Sections, Reveille online, Legacy magazine, Gumbo yearbook)

  • Solicits businesses, individuals and organizations to advertise in or underwrite any of Student Media's entities
  • Must use own vehicle when transportation is necessary
  • Keeps all clients informed of all special packages and promotions
  • Attends all comprehensive training sessions for student staff and all weekly staff meetings.
  • Keeps a daily sales call report and turns it in to Sales Manager.
  • Must make a minimum of 3 face to face client or prospect calls a week
  • Keeps approximately 20 office hours per week, including making necessary sales calls.
  • Works with design staff to help develop speculative ads and campaigns for presentation to prosspective customers.
  • Checks daily paper proofs
  • Turns in daily run sheets
  • Moves necessary client artwork into daily paper folders
  • Processes all contracts and insertion orders according to sales staff procedures.
  • Sends out weekly invoices with tearsheets to customers and also mails out monthly statements.
  • Responsible for meeting bi-weekly and overall individual sales goals

Broadcast Sales Rep (KLSU, TTV, on-line)

  • Solicits businesses, individuals and organizations to advertise or underwrite in any of Student Media's entities
  • Must use own vehicle when transportation is necessary
  • Keeps all clients informed of all special packages and promotions
  • Attends all comprehensive training sessions for student staff and all weekly staff meetings.
  • Keeps a daily sales call report and turns it in to Sales Manager.
  • Must make a minimum of 3 face to face client or prospect calls a week
  • Keeps approximately 20 office hours per week, including making necessary sales calls.
  • Works with production staff to ensure implementation of sold spots to air
  • Responsible for handling scripts to be sent for FCC approval and production
  • Once spot is produced, responsible for sending it to the client for final approval for airing
  • Checks weekly missed spots log and handles make-goods for clients
  • Processes all contracts and insertion orders according to sales staff procedures.
  • Handles getting all TV spots on DV tape, DVD or VHS for clients according to insertion order
  • Mails out monthly statements.
  • Responsible for meeting bi-weekly and overall individual sales goals

Organizational Sales Rep (to on-campus organizations and clubs for the yearbook)

  • Solicits campus organizations to purchase organizational pages in the Gumbo yearbook
  • Solicits campus organizations to purchase additional space in The Daily Reveille and Reveille Special Sections
  • Disseminates package information to organizational leaders through the use of personal presentations, meetings, e-mailed packages, flyers, and advertising group informational sessions
  • Keeps a weekly call log and turns it in to the Sales Manager.
  • Keeps approximately 15 - 20 office hours per week, including sales calls

Office Assistant

  • Maintaining accurate and up to date account lists (broadcast & print)
  • Keeps and organizes accurate client information
  • Help call-in/walk-in clients with placing classified ads
  • Check advertising e-mail, and distribute e-mails to correct Account Executive
  • Research untapped accounts and hand out to Account Executives
  • Answer phones and handle messages for sales reps
  • Cut out daily ads for the advertising binder
  • Complete Tiger Weekly monitors every Wednesday
  • Handle additional clerical work and data entry as assigned
  • May be required to performs other duties as needed and assigned

Marketing

Marketing Manager & Staff

  • Responsible for directing, managing, and overseeing the marketing staff in the planning, organizing and executing of all internal and external Student Media events, promotions and marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for the day-to-day production and execution of marketing ads to run in the paper
  • Oversees the planning, organization, and execution of all events that include paying vendors (ex: Living Expo, etc.)
  • Create complete proposals for each planned event and promotion, to include timelines, proposed budgets, and plans for multi-media execution of event campaign
  • Make sure contracts are properly prepared and reviewed by Advertising Director
  • Create an additional event other than the Living Expo, to be executed in the Fall semester, and to ensure said event generates a minimum of $2,000, preferably in the range of $4,000
  • Work with station managers and editors to collaborate on the development of any marketing campaign they wish to execute
  • Maintains ÒMarketing CampaignsÓ and ÒEvents/PromotionsÓ binders for reference and review
  • Keeps approximately 20 office hours per week.

Design & Layout

LAYOUT

  • Proficient with QuarkXPress 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop
  • Lays out the newspaper on a daily basis
  • Needs problem-solving abilities to fit ads inside the designated space allowed for that particular day
  • Works closely with management to ensure all ads are checked and the paper is handed over to editorial by deadline

DESIGN

Proficient with two or more of the following programs:

  • Adobe Photoshop 7
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe InDesign
  • QuarkXPress 6.0

Creates ads for individual clients, as requested on production orders, within deadlines established on production order Helps create ad campaigns for clients as requested by the print sales staff, marketing and management Keeps and organizes accurate electronic files and folders for clients

Distribution & Circulation

  • Show up at the dock by 6 a.m. daily
  • You are required to have a working cell phone and keep it on you, not silenced
  • Unbind all the bundles before putting them in the rack.
  • Remove any stickers or banners from the rack and report excessive incidents to Director
  • If there are returns from the previous day, record them on your skid sheet, and leave some on the lower shelf of the rack.
  • Recycle yesterdayÕs returns in any of the large green recycling dumpsters on campus.
  • Make sure all of the papers are distributed every morning, and call the manager if there are extra at the dock. Never recycle todayÕs paper.
  • Mark your skid sheets, and turn them in at the staff meeting
