Theta Xi Sweetheart Tara Geensage

Tara Greensage, a junior at LSU, is Theta Xi’s Sweetheart for 2002-2003.  Originally from Houston, Texas, Tara received a full Chancellor’s Scholarship to attend LSU.  Her parents, Roy & Donna Greensage are proud of Tara’s achievements of a 3.8 GPA overall and her double major in Business Administration and Fashion Design.  Tara is a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, Friends of the LSU Textile Museum and American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.  Within her sorority, she has held the title of Senior Sponsor and has helped to raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and awareness.

“I am so excited Theta Xi has given me this honor!  I truly love spending time with these great men and feel I have a bond with each of them here at LSU.  I plan to have a fun year with them and will present a picture book of events for Theta Xi at the end of my term.”
Incidentally, Tara’s boyfriend is LSU Senior Paul Wattigny, AA 1695, a Political Science Major from Gretna, LA.

Theta Xi Fraternity Presents DSA Award to Sammons and Hightower

Bothers Leslie “Sammy” L. Sammons, Jr. AA, 768 and John S. Hightower, AA 761, were awarded Theta Xi Distinguished Service Award for exceptional and meritorious service to Theta Xi. Alumni Corporation President Jim Ragland, made the presentation during the chapter’s Thanksgiving Dinner, held at the house the evening of November 24th.

Brother Hightower also served as House Corporation President in 2002-'03, and from 1973 to '75, and Treasurer at points in between.  The class of '67 graduate earned a degree in Political Science, now President of John Hightower Public Affairs Counsel.  John, a native of Lake Charles, served as Pledge Trainer, and IFC Delegate as an undergraduate.  His brothers Mel and Gary are also Alpha Alphas.

Brother Sammons, class of '68, originally from Houma, was undergraduate Treasurer and Social Chairman, and graduated in History.  Sammy is President of Langham (Langham is his middle name) Consulting Service, Inc., a computer software firm serving municipal governments.  Over many years Brother Sammons has provided support and leadership to the chapter and House Corporation.  He served as President of the House Corporation in 1975-'76 and most recently in 2000-'01, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors.  Sammy has also made significant financial contributions to A New Chapter in Our History over several years.

Both Sammy and John’s leadership during the chapter’s re colonization, re chartering and capital campaign has been instrumental in Theta Xi returning to LSU.  Since August 1941, when the award was adopted, only 398 Theta Xi have received this prestigious honor.  Sammy and John are the 10thand 11th AA’s to receive the DSA

Jim Ragland, Theta Xi Fraternity Alumni Corporation President, (far left) presented John Hightower, (middle) Theta Xi National Fraternity’s Distinguished Service Award for exemplary and meritorious service to the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Theta Xi Fraternity at LSU.  Also pictured from left to right are; Susan Reed, Faculty Advisor, Walter Brock, Former National President of Theta Xi, and Alumni Advisor, Stanton Cadow.  The presentation was made during the Chapter’s Thanksgiving Dinner, November 24th.  Leslie “Sammy” Sammons, not pictured, was also presented the Distinguished Service Award for his service and dedication to Theta Xi over many years.
