Students In
Free Enterprise

Projects:
Unplug
Through rigorous planning with multiple organizations, LSU SIFE held the 2nd
annual Unplug Competition from February 22nd thru March 22nd. Before the
competition's kickoff, we held 22 educational seminars to educate students
on ways they can reduce their carbon footprint without taking drastic
measures. In addition to the educational seminars, students signed a pledge
to reduce their waste and become more energy efficient.
Hands on Credit
Becoming wealthy is a matter of managing your money properly. Realizing this
LSU SIFE invested over 70 hours in creating a financial literacy program to
tackle the poor money and credit management of college students. We created
a 22 page "Hands on Credit" booklet covering topics such as creating a
budget, applying for credit, credit management, paying off student loans,
and buying insurance. Thinking outside the box, we setup a booth outside of
the Student Union to attract many students to increase their financial
literacy knowledge.
Merit Badge Day
Our commitment to providing positive outlets for today's youth in the Boy
Scouts of America continued on Saturday March 6, 2010. LSU SIFE in
partnership with the Sewell Eagle District of the Istrouma Area Council held
our 5th annual Merit Badge Day. SIFE members organized leaders to teach 35
badges, reserved classrooms and coordinated registration, assisted with
lunch, and taught 5 merit badges. SIFE members taught the Personal
Management, American Business, Auto Mechanics, Salesmanship, and
Entrepreneurship badges. Overall SIFE committed 464 hours to ensure that
this extensive project was a success.
Interview Seminar
LSU SIFE prepared students for the workforce by hosting our 4th annual
Interview Seminar. This year the seminar incorporated Dean Eli Jones of the
E.J. Ourso College of Business and LSU career services. Dean Jones conducted
mini mock interviews with students during the seminar. In addition, LSU
Career Services educated students on networking during career fairs and
business events, on proper etiquette during networking, dress attire,
learning about your interviewer, and the importance of hand written thank
you notes.
Walgreens Wrangle
We attended Walgreens Wrangle hosted by Southern Arkansas University for the
2nd year in a row. We created a marketing plan for a struggling entrepreneur
in an attempt to rejuvenate
his business.
We presented our
marketing plan in a 15 minute presentation to a panel of judges. Our
experience from the Walgreens Wrangle will come in handy as we prepare for
SIFE's National Exposition.
