Congratulations to the
Louisiana State University (LSU) Powerlifting Team on
their victory at the 2007 USAPL Collegiate Nationals held in
Killeen, Texas. The LSU Tigers men's and combined teams
defeated the reigning national champions, Lousisiana Tech
University Bulldogs, in a hotly contested competition. This
was a historic moment in collegiate powerlifting history
because the Tigers' win snapped a 10+ year win streak by the
Bulldogs

On the weekend of April 13-15 in Killeen, Texas, LSU’s
Powerlifting Club Team competed in the USAPL Collegiate
Nationals Tournament. Of 36 total teams in the combined
entry, the Tigers finished first for their first national
title ever. The Lady Tigers placed second overall, while the
men defeated the 14-year defending champions of Louisiana
Tech.
In a Powerlifting competition, there are three events that
take place: squat, bench press and the dead lift. Each
competitor gets three attempts in each category, and the
best score goes toward the final total. In addition to
lifting the weights, each participant must also be aware of
their technique because that is judged as well. For a
tournament, the weight class range for girls is 97 lbs. –
198 lbs. and over, while for boys the range is 114 lbs – 217
lbs. and over.
On April 13 - 15, the LSU Powerlifting Club competed in the
USAPL Collegiate Nationals held in Killeen, Texas. The LSU
club did outstanding in this competition!
