Forecheck and last-minute goals prove to be too much for Tigers (10/20/07) 

BATON ROUGE La., Florida finished off a two-game sweep of the Tigers in impressive fashion with a 12-2 victory in game two. The Gators took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission after scoring with just eight seconds to go in the period. The Tigers were unable to breakout against the Florida forecheck, and the Gators added four goals in the second period and six goals in the third to complete the rout. LSU’s Steve Ashy score two unassisted goals for the Tigers who fall to 2-2 on the season. The Gators scored in the final minute of all three periods and improve to 4-1 on the season. LSU will travel to Nashville next weekend to play Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

 2^nd period outburst lifts Gators over Tigers (10/19/07)

BATON ROUGE La., LSU’s first period against Florida proved to be its best. Steve Ashy’s unassisted shorthanded goal late in the first gave LSU a 1-0 lead heading into the break. However, the tide quickly turned as the Gators exploded for ten goals in the second period. In the midst of the Gator rally, Tiger Rhett Richardson scored LSU’s second goal of the game assisted by Christophe Philipon and Michael Mayeux. Both teams skated to a scoreless draw in the third period, and the game would end with the score 10-2 in favor of the Gators. The Tigers head into tomorrow’s game optimistic about their first and third period play.

BATON ROUGE La., LSU improved to 2-0 on the young season following a 4-2 win over Tulane in game two of the series. Although Tulane scored the first goal for the second game in a row, Tiger goalie Paden Alleman stole the show. Tigers Brandon Hicks and Curt Eberhart answered with first period goals to give LSU a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Mike Mayeux extended LSU’s lead with a goal in the second period, and Clark Alsfeld put the game away with a goal midway through the third. Tulane added a late third period goal, however it was too little too late, and LSU skated to a 4-2 victory. The Tigers will have little time to celebrate sweeping their in state rivals, because next weekend, they host the Florida Gators riding a two-game winning streak.
