Candlelight Vigil

On Feb 13th-2008, the Indian Student Association hosted a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Kiran Kumar Allam and Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma who were murdered exactly two months ago. The ceremony also emphasized the future of campus safety. The candlelight vigil started from the Memorial Tower, until the Edward Gay apartments which was the location of the tragic incident.

Campus Safety Forum and its minutes...

The Campus safety forum was conducted on 31st Jan where the officials discussed safety issues in the campus and the measures to be taken.

Some of the important issues which were discussed are

1. The campus transit facility is improved for the convenience of people who wait for their arrival. From now on the transit people will call back at the person who has scheduled the pick-up once they arrive at the specified location.  In this way the people who don't want to wait can specify about this when they call the transit for pick up.

2. The gates have been approved at the Nicholson Apartments. All the entrances to the apartment would be blocked with one open entrance. The front side parking is left open for visitors and RFID tags will be provided to all the apartment holders for access into the apartment. As per the officials, the order has been approved for this and they are going to be placed soon.

3. The lighting in the campus are reviewed by the architects and all the dark areas discovered will be eliminated.

4. 50 security cameras are been  set around the residence halls  in the campus.

5. A new web page will be added to the LSU website where people can drop any complaint, or suggestion and report a light/camera outage  or any such malfunction.  (the phone number for reporting outage is 225 578 3186)

These are few things which the forum committee have decided to put to action in near future. More information will be updated.

Petition regarding On-Campus safety concerns

As most of you are aware of the unfortunate incident of double homicides of two Indian graduate students at Edward Gay apartment, LSU on Dec 13th 2007, we at Indian Student Association have put a petition together regarding the concerns of safety on campus. Some of the requests mentioned in the petition are as follows.

1. Security for the students
2. Increased LSUPD surveillance
3. Improved Campus transit facility
4. Improving the lighting facilities in campus and housing, and much more
