Engineering Extravaganza/Freshman Career Expo
At the Engineering Extravaganza, we provide incoming engineering students with information about the college, the different engineering curriculums, engineering student organizations, and future career opportunities. The president from each professional and honorary engineering society is invited to speak about their organizations and how they are involved on campus and in the engineering college.
The Freshman Career Expo is planned to give incoming freshmen who are interested in engineering an idea about what each major discipline can offer them: the intensity of the course work, the different career opportunities, and a general background about what each major does. The purpose of the Expo is to give Freshmen students information so that they can make an informed decision on which engineering major they would like to pursue.
Date Auction
Anyone want a date with a cute, intelligent, SINGLE, guy who will be employed after college and has the potential to make six figures? That's what I thought, girls!
In the Spring of 2004, the Engineering Council of LSU hosted its 1st annual DATE AUCTION at Mellow Mushroom, a local pizzeria and popular night hangout for LSU students. The event, which raised more than $1,900 for the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and the Engineering Council, was a huge success! More than 300 students came to watch the action as council members auctioned off 30 eligible bachelors, many whom belonged to the various honorary and professional engineering societies on campus. Student leaders and athletes were also auctioned off in an effort to reach a wider population of LSU students. Each bachelor came with a date package, which included things like dinner for two and movie passes, or golf for two and pizza. Because it was such a big hit, the Engineering Council is gearing up for the 2nd annual Date Auction in the Fall of 2005.
The Date Auction could not have been possible without the help of a dedicated group of volunteers who spent months planning the event. The planning committee had the tasks of booking a location for the auction, soliciting donations from local restaurants and entertainment venues, finding 30 eligible bachelors, advertising the event, and working the event. Because the event also benefited a local cancer research center, soliciting donations was a lot easier than it would have been had the auction only benefited the council, and the council was able to give back to the Baton Rouge community. Even though the planning of this event took several months, it was worth every minute!

Article from Tiger Torque
"On Sunday, October 12th at 3pm on the Parade Grounds the Corporate Gumbo Cook-off will kick off. Most Engineering Societies offer students the chance to come face to face with an individual company; however, the Engineering Council is bringing five companies, namely, BP, Shell, Entergy, Schlumberger, and Halliburton. Come learn what engineering companies are looking for in their prospective employees. Each company will have a core team of representatives who will help answer any questions you may have about the field. All we ask of each participating student is for five copies of your resume with the addition of all your engineering friend's participation as well. This is a great chance for networking and giving yourself the edge in the highly competitive engineering market. The Corporate Gumbo Cook-off is meant to facilitate the transition from school to work, by relaying the knowledge of what is out there. Any student who is serious about joining the workforce and is also a fan of serious fun will come and represent him or herself."
