The delta journal is Louisiana State University’s undergraduate literary magazine. Founded in the winter of 1947 it continues to be a medium for and record of student literary and artistic excellence. Our staff seeks quality writing in the following mediums: Poetry, Short Fiction, Essays, Translations, Creative Nonfiction, Plays, Excerpts from Novels, Excerpts from Screenplays, Interviews, Literary/Art Criticism, Philosophical and Poetic Manifestoes. In addition Delta accepts black and white visual art submissions from the following: Painting, Drawing, Photography, Prints, Sculpture, and Mixed Media.
Since 1947 delta has been dedicated to representing creativity across LSU. Therefore, all students, regardless of major, are welcome to submit and apply for staff positions.
All submissions are considered for the Matt Clark Award, for best in Fiction and Poetry, to the amount of $100 each. Non-students seeking publication cannot be considered for this award. All manuscripts are consider and voted upon by a reading committee of distinguished LSU students
The Delta’s mission, as of 2008, is:
-To staff dedicated upper-class students particularly those of English Department.
-To provide them with a practicum in the fields of editorship, networking, management and publicity.
-To provide for this staff an office space and educational center, whereby the editors may work and learn year round
-To maintain relations between both on-campus journals The New Delta Review and The Southern Review.
-To engage in and facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue within the LSU artistic community by utilizing progressive, proactive networking strategies outlined in the Delta Handbook.
-To uphold its commitment to the community by providing all interested students access to the Delta Library and Creative Writing Educational Center.
-To provide for all students and faculty a medium for creative output in the form of an annual journal and for this journal to be a testimony to that dialogue.
-To remain dedicated to creativity on all fronts by publishing works from different members of different departments, i.e. philosophy, anthropology, foreign languages, natural sciences, visual arts, etc.
-To host community events which help shape the morale of the artistic community and raise awareness of its publication.
-In doing so, tolift the prestige of the Undergraduate Creative Writing Program and to have that prestige be substantially felt among the student population through its visibility. |
