CSSA COMMITTEE WISH YOU ENJOY A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY!
12/24/2002
Dear all CSSA members
In the past semester, with the strongest support from our folk members, we
worked together as a great community. Without your help, we can do nothing,
REALLY!
On behalf of CSSA committee, I may present the SECOND periodic report of CSSA
to all of us members:
WHAT OUR COMMUNITY DID SINCE OCT.
1) On Oct, our community SUCCESSFULLY attended the Intl. Culture Expo.. So
many friends lent their favorite collections to CSSA to exhibit on the Expo.
Some friends attended the performance using very limited spare time. We appreciate
VERY MUCH for all of our friends' contribution. Also with many volunteers' hard
work, with Great Wall Restaurant' donation of food, our Exhibition has gained
much attention from others.
Through the exhibition, a high school teacher asked us to introduce China, some
friends (like Dr. Li, thanks) among us gave great speech to US kids. The teacher
appreciated our Chinese friends very much. We ar! e proud of these friends,
and we are proud of being Chinese.
It is worth to mention that our committee members, especially Miss Chen,Yaowen
and Miss Zhong, Ying contributed a lot behind the stage to the exhibition.
It is good to see that we really showed something matching our name: CHINESE!
2) On Nov., under the leading by Vice president Xiao, Yao (thanks!), many friends
worked greatly together on our directory. From the design of cover, register
information, typing and printing. So many people contributed their own efforts
in extremely busy time.
We appreciate many friends' great work to facilitate all our folks.
(ps. if someone has not got the directory, please contact any committee member,
sorry for the delay if any).
3) Inspired by the good work of all our people, the Reveille reported CSSA activity on Oct. 29 2002 (Page 3), together with Indian student assoc. after an interview between news writer and me (also thanks the friend in Mass C! ommunications to supply my contact inf. to facilitate interview). It is the first step to let others know about CSSA. If friends want to read, we can try to upload to the website in the future;
4) Chen, Suren, on behalf of CSSA at LSU, attended the meeting of general consulate in Houston on Oct. and brought back some information;
5) Arranged and attended the meeting between Chinese general consulate (chief consul et al.) with LSU authority (Exc. Vice Chancellor); attended the meeting between chief consul and the commissioner of higher education (highest supervisor of higher education) in the board of regents of LA state in early Nov. The name of CSSA should be refreshed in their mind somehow;
6) Sent appreciation letter to Assoc. Director of Residential Life for helping
new students in the last fall (Thanks Zhong, Ying's excellent and professional
writing);
7) Attended the welcome party held by Chancellor of LSU Dr. Emmert in December.
Extended th! e thanks and greeting from almost 500 Chinese students/scholars
to Mr. Chancellor.
*Special thanks to our webmaster Zhang, Bin for his fabulous design and on-time update on CSSA website (great job). We should also appreciate our Vice President Zhang, Weiqiang for many things especially excellent work on the email list management.
WHAT CSSA TRIED BUT NOT DONE YET...
1) Flag issue: with communication with many friends, basic strategy was built and we triedcommitteeest the ICC committe to change the policy. They agreed but final results have not come out yet. We are still working on that and welcome more suggestions;
2) We promised to work out a BBS system. Unfortunately, due to some unexpected financial demand and technical problems, we can not straighten this out right now. We are VERY sorry for that.
WHAT CSSA WILL DO NEXT
1) New students are coming! Again, we NEED volunteers! As usual, if you feel
like to pick up new students,! or maybe supplying temp. living place. (Due to
great help from Res. Life and our many kind new students (like Li, Keren and
Ying Hong et al.), we did not use the TEMP living place many friends registered.
Some people personally (like Xian, Feng et al.) accommodated them, and we appreciate
their kind help.). This semester, we will try our best to work with Res. Life
(we built up some good relationship with them, and someone there even asked
me just come for help only if he can. We will try NOT to bother you, but if
you feel like, we also hope you may register that you may help if it is in a
really RAINY DAY!).
Please send email to cssa_lsu2002@yahoo.com, in subject, write volunteer...,
PLEASE specify when you are available to pick up and point out if temp. Accommodation
(male/female, how many). Hopefully, we don't need to bother you if we can.
2) Spring festival is coming!!! This is the MOST IMPORTANT festival for Chinese.
How to celebrate that? We need your ! opinions, and we make a poll. We will
do whatever YOU want. In the mean time, we need SO MANY volunteers for any celebrations.
Spring festival is in a good time (semester just starts, not busy. More importantly,
there is only ONCE a year!) Let's enjoy NOT ONLY the festival itself, BUT ALSO
the process of working TOGETHER for the celebration of the festival. Please
send email to cssa_lsu2002@yahoo.com, subject: Spring festival?
a) Performance, we can do it if there are AT LEAST 10 performances are volunteered!
b) Dumpling? We need 20 Volunteers at least and some senior advisors on making
dumpling (some people like me are a dumb on this except eating...)
c) Others?
We will finally decide what we will do based on poll results! Please tell us
what you prefer, hurry!!!
We CSSA committee sincerely appreciate all the support from our members. For our own life, let's WORK TOGETHER! THANK YOU! If you think something we did not well, PLEASE send email to the ad! dress. We will try to correct if we still have the chance, otherwise, at least leave as suggestions for next committee.
LAST BUT VERY IMPORTANT- NOMINATION OF NEXT CSSA PRESIDENT.
We have begun the process of selecting the next president candidates. Personally,
I think this is a great job will benefit not only others and yourself. You will
not benefit from this serving maybe now, but you are assured that you will remember
this experience if you REALLY devoted to this.
PLEASE nominate yourself or others from now! Just send email to cssa_lsu2002@lsu.edu
with subject: NOMINATE...
To enlarge the range of selection, we think NOT necessarily only friends coming
this fall or last springs are eligible. Any people who NEVER be the PRESIDENT
can be nominated (even previous Vic. President or other committee member is
eligible), but priority is given to students coming this fall, spring and last
spring (who HAD no chance to be possibly selected). Comments are wel! comed
on this selection process
We start this early and try to find a better successor to form a team serve
the community.
Again, thank for all the help we got and expect serving all our folks better.
CSSA committee wishes you have good luck and enjoy the holiday with the best
mood!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
