The Louisiana State University College Democrats work actively to promote the principles of the Democratic Party, both on and off campus. The LSU College Dems are the official college outreach of the Democratic Party and are also an outreach of the Louisiana Democratic Party. Our main focus is on electing Democrats from the grassroots level up. We are not just part of a campus political club but of a nationwide student-driven action network. As the next generation of Democratic leaders emerges, LSU College Dems will be standing behind them fighting to bring peace and prosperity back to America. We are a completely student-driven organization where our motto is, "Political Activism at its Best!"

At the Democratic National Convention in Boston, the Louisiana State University (LSU) College Democrats were awarded National Runner-Up for the College Democrats of America Chapter of the Year.

Over 25 students representing over 15 of Louisiana's colleges and universities traveled to Boston for the College Democrats of America national convention, participating in campaign trainings hosted by the Democratic Grassroots Action Institute and Network (GAIN), organizing CDA rallies and attending youth events throughout the Boston area.

The award was based on constituency group outreach, voter registration and mobilization, creative programming and membership growth. LSU College Democrats competed against perennial powers such as Harvard College Dems, Brown Democrats, Georgetown College Democrats, Penn College Dems, and Cal-Berkley College Democrats. Smith College was named Chapter of the Year.

"It is quite an honor to be considered one of the most active student political groups in the country," said Ryan Berni, President of LSU College Democrats and Executive Director of College Democrats of Louisiana, a federation representing campus groups from over 15 Louisiana colleges and universities. "Our members are organized and energized, ready to get out the vote and ensure Democratic victories for Kerry-Edwards and Democratic candidates across the state."

Through innovative GOTV efforts and creative programming, the LSU College Democrats have been an invaluable resource to the state and national Democratic parties, delivering victories and advancing Democratic principles across the Bayou state," said Derek Wooley, Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party. "The LSU College Democrats, combined with the rest of the College Democrats of Louisiana, will have a significant, positive impact on the upcoming elections in Louisiana."
