On Friday, the Louisiana Film Commission, sponsored by the Cinema Club at LSU, presented their first Louisiana Film Summit in the LSU Colonnade Theater. The topic of discussion was "Financing Your Independent Film." The co-keynote speakers were Ligiah Villalobos and Bill Nunn. Ms. Villalobos is an established multicultural and independent film producer who has worked on HBO's Dancing in September and the award-winning Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. Mr. Nunn is a well-known actor who can currently be seen on the ABC TV series "The Job." Both Ms. Villalobos' and Mr. Nunn's presentations were very interesting and informative. Outhouse 2001 officially kicked off on Saturday morning with a thirty minute welcome and orientation in the LSU Colonnade Theater. Following the welcome, guest speakers Rick Blackwood and Stuart McCowan each gave presentations in Dodson Hall. The festival then broke briefly for lunch. When the festival goes returned to the Colonnade Theatre after lunch, the highly anticipated film screenings began. This year's sixteen entries encompassed a wide range of genres, styles, and lengths, ranging from a four minute experimental silent film to thirty minute-plus narrative dramas. The festival audience was delighted and entertained by this interesting and eclectic collection of film. Outhouse 2001 reconvened once more on Sunday afternoon to give awards and to re-screen the winning entries. Cinema Club President Mark Landry was also presented with a special appreciation award for his hard work and dedication as the inaugural club president and his efforts in forming the Cinema Club at LSU and the Outhouse Film and Video Festival. The Cinema Club at LSU would like to thank the supporters of Outhouse 2001 for their generous donations. We couldn't have done Outhouse 2001 without you!
