1 | 2 | 3 | 4 Outhouse "Mach 1" was pure excitement for me. I had been in the Cinema Club for about 5 months or so, but I wasn't really involved in the behind-the-scenes process of the event. In fact, I think Mark, Kyle (who I've known forever), and this dude Andre were the only people I had ever talked to in the club by that point. I just kind of shyly came to meetings and sat there. So, when those guys went out into the quad for "Climerian Monster Blood" I just thought, "What's going on?" But it was cool. Outhouse was exhilarating, simply because it seemed like we were finally getting something that we'd never ever had. And to a certain extent, that is exactly what was happening, but it was just a fantastic feeling. Now the festival itself was a little shaky. Tons of people showed up, but there wasn't any real structure to it all (I don't think). We ended up screening films for like 9 hours straight, which was insane. But that's just how much material we had I suppose. Ya see, LSU was waiting for Outhouse, and it was, pardon the pun, a kind of "diarrhea of film." David Jensen's (Elmo Oxygen) talk stands out in my mind, especially when Brady in his velvet suit jumped up and shook his hand. Soderbergh's film was really funny, but I really didn't know a lot about him back then (of course, we're all big fans now!). Mark wanted everyone to come up and talk about their films before they screened, but I was terrified to do that. So I sunk into my seat and just shouted, "Roll the tape!" when he called my name. It was a trial balloon and a template. But other than technical failures (i.e. the all important projector), it was a huge success and a great deal of fun. 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
