Student Life

Expenses can be kept low by sharing off campus apartments with other Bangladeshi students. Normally students share a 2 - 3 bedroom apartment and pay a rent of approximately $150 a month.

Average monthly expenses figure around $300 - $400. Since textbooks are expensive here, it would be a good idea to obtain a list of required textbooks and get the same from Bangladesh.

It would be a good idea to pick up a few cooking tips while you are in your current country of residence. All ingredients pertaining to Bangladeshi cooking are available here. It is also a good idea to bring any processed food from Bangladesh and in case you do so, make sure it is well sealed and packed.

The climate is subtropical, similar to that found in Bangladesh. The period from March to October is rather hot with temperatures ranging from 25 - 35 C (77 - 95 F). During winter it gets quite cold and warm clothes like sweaters and jackets are needed.

You can fly directly to Baton Rouge or to New Orleans and then take a Greyhound bus to Baton Rouge. We can arrange to pick you up from the Baton Rouge airport or from the Greyhound terminal. We can not pick you up from New Orleans airport.

Please inform us about your arrival well in advance so that we can make pick up arrangements for you. It would be advisable to come at least two weeks in advance to become acclimatized to your new surroundings.

We look forward to seeing you at LSU. Have a pleasant and safe journey.
