What is S.T.R.I.P.E.S.?


S.T.R.I.P.E.S. (Student Tigers Rallying, Interacting, and Promoting Education and Service) is a first year transition program designed to make the transition from high school to LSU smooth and fun. The purpose is to give students the opportunity to have fun, make friends and learn more about the history and traditions as well as the responsibility associated with being an LSU Tiger!

Why should I attend S.T.R.I.P.E.S.?

Students who attended the program in 2008 reported the following reasons for attending
S.T.R.I.P.E.S.:

  • 99% of participants would recommend S.T.R.I.P.E.S. to other incoming freshmen.

  • 98% felt the information gained from the program will be a good resource during their first year of college.

  • 92% reported feeling more comfortable about starting classes because of the new friends they made.

  • 98% felt more confident about being a college student after participating in S.T.R.I.P.E.S.

  • 99% reported having a greater appreciation for campus after learning more about the history and traditions of LSU.

  • 96% recognized their potential to be a student leader at LSU.

How do I register for S.T.R.I.P.E.S.?

The registration form is located on the
S.T.R.I.P.E.S. website under “Registration.” Before you register, be sure to read through all of the participant information. Then complete the registration form and mail your payment of $200 (check or money order made payable to the LSU S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Program).

Are there any scholarships or discounts on the registration fee?

Scholarships are available on a need basis. Students interested in being considered must (1) check the space on the registration form to let us know they are interested in being considered for a scholarship and (2) have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All students must pay the registration fee. If awarded a scholarship, it will be placed on the student’s fee bill as a reimbursement after both sessions have concluded.

What are the dates for S.T.R.I.P.E.S. 2009?

For your convenience, two sessions of
S.T.R.I.P.E.S. are available. The dates are for Session 1 is August 3-6 and Session 2 will be held on August 10-13. Before you click on the “submit” button on the registration form, check to make sure you have the appropriate session selected.

Where should I stay if I need to arrive on the Sunday before S.T.R.I.P.E.S.?

If participants need to arrive on Sunday evening, they can pay an additional $35 for temporary housing in the Residential College Complex. Be sure to check the appropriate space on the registration form and add the fee to your registration fee, which will total $235.

If I’m flying or riding a bus to Baton Rouge, is there transportation to the LSU Campus?

Unfortunately, the staff will not be able to provide transportation to and from the LSU campus. Visit the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport online at www.flybtr.com for information on taxis and shuttles.

If I attend S.T.R.I.P.E.S., what should I bring?

Students participating in
S.T.R.I.P.E.S. should wear clothing that is light and comfortable. The temperature for Louisiana in August will be very hot. Please bring enough clothing for four days. You may want to bring an extra set in case it rains or your clothes get dirty during an activity. Also pack a pair of jeans for night activities. You’ll have time to change in the afternoon if needed. You will also need to wear comfortable tennis shoes. Open toe shoes and sandals are not recommended during the day. Skirts and dresses should not be worn during the day.

Where can I park my car?

You may park your car in the parking lots near the Residential College Complex. You will need to pick up a special parking pass so your car will not be ticketed or towed during the program. You will not be allowed to use your car during
S.T.R.I.P.E.S. If you need directions, please refer to the online campus map or read more about parking here.

Are there any rules I need to follow while at S.T.R.I.P.E.S.?

Yes. There are three sets of rules you should follow. They include the
S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Rules as well as the Residential Life Policies and the Student Code of Conduct. You will receive a copy of the Residence Hall Rules when you check into S.T.R.I.P.E.S. The Student Code of Conduct can be accessed on the Office of the Dean of Students website.
