Welcome to LSU. We are excited to offer you the opportunity to participate in the third annual LSU Summer Reading Program, a program designed to introduce you to the academic and intellectual culture of the University through a common reading experience. LSU provides the selected book for you and invites the author to LSU for Academic Convocation, the scholarly kick-off event of the new school year. The program also gives students the opportunity to hear personally from the author, meet other new students, as well as participate in faculty-led discussions about the book directly following the event. The book selected for this year is the national bestseller, Life on the Color Line: A True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black by Gregory Howard Williams. The author will address the LSU community during Academic Convocation on Friday, August 25, 2006. All freshmen are required to attend the event and the discussion groups that follow. Attendance will be taken, which will qualify you for a drawing for one of 10 $250 gift certificates from the LSU Bookstore. We know this book will stimulate open discussion during the coming year and prepare you for the academic challenges of LSU.
